Cotton Fibre

COTTON FIBRE

FASHIONABLE ...NATURAL ... VERSATILE

With the largest cotton acreage in the world at 12 Million hectares, steady improvement in farming practices and one of the fastest growing yields, India is the world’s second largest producer of cotton and may well become the largest by 2015. Alongside the ever increasing domestic consumption by India’s vast and vibrant textile industry, the country has also managed a consistent exportable surplus of cotton with rising yield per hectare.

Indian cotton encompasses all the four major varieties of cotton known globally along with over 200 varieties and hybrids making it the widest possible range in the world. India produces extra long staple, long staple, medium and short staple varieties that can be spun in a wide range from 6 to 120 counts presenting buyers with a bouquet of options to meet the diverse end uses.

Growing environment consciousness among consumers and increased preference by brands, labels and retailers for the use of eco-friendly textiles in clothing and home textiles have boosted the demand for organic cotton. As a ‘GREEN’ alternative, organic cotton promises a safer and healthier world for present and future generations.

With a spectacular increase in production in the last two years, India is the world’s largest producer of organic cotton and has an annual production of over 75,000 tons, undoubtedly encouraged by the increased use of organic fibre in everything from personal care items (sanitary products, make-up removal pads, cotton puffs and ear swabs), to home furnishings (towels, bathrobes, sheets, blankets, bedding), children’s products (toys, diapers), all kinds of apparel (including work wear, sportswear and other uses), and even stationery and note cards.
